Google Pixel Watch 2 Gears Up for Launch with FCC Certification

Google’s next-generation smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 2, recently crossed an important milestone on its way to release. The highly anticipated wearable has received certification from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States, as spotted in newly published documents.

The FCC filing reveals that the Pixel Watch 2 will launch in three models: G4TSL, GC368, and GD2WG. The G4TSL variant offers Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connectivity and four interchangeable strap options, including an active plastic strap, metal mesh, metal link, and a new metal slim strap.

The GC368 model supports LTE bands 5 and 7, while the GD2WG packs support for LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 66, and 71, making it the Pixel Watch 2’s LTE model for the US market.

Notably absent from the FCC documents is any mention of an Ultra-Wideband (UWB) chip, which was previously rumored to enable digital car key features.

The FCC green light indicates Google is gearing up for an imminent Pixel Watch 2 debut, likely alongside the upcoming Pixel 8 phones. Earlier leaks point to the next-gen smartwatch packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor (Pixel Watch 2 Opts for Powerful New Snapdragon W5 platform, Promises Major Battery Boost), unlike the Exynos-based original, promising significant performance and battery life improvements.

With Google checking the necessary regulatory boxes, the Pixel Watch 2 appears well on its way to launch. We’ll be keeping an eye out for any further details leading up to the anticipated reveal of Google’s newest wearable. For now, the FCC filing provides the clearest indication yet that the Pixel Watch 2 is just over the horizon.
