An unexpected FTC documents has divulged Microsoft’s roadmap for a refreshed Xbox Series X console codenamed “Brooklyn” planned for 2024.

The confidential internal documents outline a disc-less cylindrical console design with up to 2TB of storage and a USB-C port.
Microsoft is targeting $499 pricing like the current Series X along with a 15% more power efficient PSU. Other hardware upgrades include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and a new 6nm SoC.
An image of the “Sebile” controller reveals a black and white panda color scheme but a largely unchanged button layout. However, major capability boosts are coming including gyroscopes, improved haptics, quieter buttons, and the ability to connect directly to the cloud.
The new controller will also introduce replaceable batteries and modular joysticks for enhanced repairability. It’s set to launch in May 2024 for $69.99.
An upgraded Series S console with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth is also in the works for August 2024 followed by the Series X refresh in October.
While not intended for public view yet, the leaked plans provide an early glimpse into Microsoft’s Xbox roadmap. The refreshed Series X represents an evolution of the console likely geared toward mid-generation improvements.
Between the power efficiency gains, modular controller, and disc-less design, Microsoft seems focused on iterating in smart ways while maintaining accessibility and value with the $499 price point. It’s an exciting, if unintended, sneak peek at the future of Xbox.
