Snapdragon X Elite: Qualcomm’s Bold Bet to Beat Apple’s M3

Qualcomm is picking a fight with Apple’s coveted new M3 chip, semiconductor giant asserts its Snapdragon X Elite for PCs outpunches Cupertino’s finest – delivering faster single and multi-core performance versus the M3 while using less power.

Unveiled last October, the Snapdragon X Elite (formerly named Oryon) initially touted efficacy savings over comparable ARM chips, claiming 30% greater energy efficiency than rivals. Qualcomm likewise said the X Elite matches peak performance of leading ARM-based competitors, targeting the then-new M2 Max.

How the landscape has changed! Apple’s since released its M3 MacBook Pro. Keen to stay competitive, Qualcomm now compares the X Elite directly to the M3, results seem impressive.

M3 Killer Performance?

According to Qualcomm, the X Elite beats the M3 outright for single-threaded CPU speed. It also delivers up to 21% faster multi-core performance against Apple’s latest and greatest. Considering the M3 just launched, those stats should make industry leaders take notice.

AI Inside: A Key X Elite Advantage?

With the PC market now fixated on ARM-based Apple silicon, Qualcomm aims to win based on AI capabilities – a space where Cupertino has lagged leaders like NVIDIA. The Snapdragon X Elite incorporates purpose-built AI acceleration, unlocking experiences like one-click background blur in video calls.

And early feedback seems promising. Qualcomm employees currently test unbranded X Elite reference designs, praising the platform’s balance of performance and AI-enhanced experiences.

When Can We Expect Snapdragon-Powered M3 Killers?

If the X Elite seems enticing, but patience is key. Qualcomm expects consumer laptops featuring the platform to debut mid-2024 based on its product roadmap. Top manufacturers like Microsoft, Samsung, and Lenovo are all slated to produce machines housing the components.

Industry pundits also warn interested shoppers to avoid purchasing new laptops now. Why? Because the impending X Elite launch promises such significant improvements beyond today’s PC offerings.

Benchmark battles aside, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite represents a bold bet to shape the future of mobile computing – on their terms. By directly addressing power efficiency while layering in specialized AI acceleration, Qualcomm aims to outmaneuver both Apple and Intel in 2024 and beyond.

Can the Snapdragon X Elite dethrone Apple silicon? Next year, consumers finally get to decide for themselves. But expectations are clearly high for Qualcomm to deliver the PC promised land.
