Apple Vision Pro Durability and Sizing Concerns and This Thing is Really Heavy

Mark Gurman highlighted two potential issues with the new Apple Vision Pro headset – durability and sizing accuracy.

Vision Pro initially Launching February 2nd with Pre-Orders Starting January 19th to the United States, on durability, Gurman notes Apple includes a protective cover for the exterior display, implying it is prone to cracking if dropped or bumped. Users will need to take extra care to avoid damage.

Regarding sizing, Gurman is skeptical that the face scanning process to select accessories will be flawless. He wonders about the process for online orders or getting refitted if the initial fit is off.

These insights were echoed by Marques Brownlee after extended Vision Pro testing. Despite being wowed by the visuals and eye tracking, he kept coming back to the weight feeling uncomfortable after longer periods.

Brownlee’s impressions show that even if the Vision Pro sizing is perfect, the sheer bulk and heft could be dealbreakers for regular use for many people.

Durability and wearable comfort are often overlooked elements that make or break widespread adoption. If the Vision Pro is fragile and unwieldy all day, Apple may struggle convincing the masses to embrace it.

This first-generation headset was never going to be perfect. But Apple may need hardware refinements like a more durable display, lighter materials, and better weight distribution to make the Vision Pro truly immersive over long stretches. Software tweaks could also help fine-tune the sizing and fitting process.

The Vision Pro marks an exciting start to Apple’s augmented reality ambitions, refinement across durability, sizing, and wearability will be critical to moving beyond tech early adopters.
