Honkai: Star Rail 4.0 Mobile Hardware Requirements Jump Significantly

HoYoverse has announced that Honkai: Star Rail 4.0 will demand considerably more processing power from mobile players. Update represents a notable shift in technical expectations, particularly affecting smartphone users who’ve been running the game on older hardware. What’s driving this change remains unclear, though speculation points toward enhanced visual systems or expanded content complexity.

Jump in specifications isn’t subtle. Android players will need devices running Snapdragon 870, Dimensity 1300, or Kirin 9000 chipsets at minimum for the recommended configuration, a clear step up from the previous Snapdragon 855 baseline. iOS users face similar adjustments, with iPhone 11 now serving as the entry point instead of iPhone X or XR. For iPad owners, the shift moves from A12-powered devices to models starting with iPad 9, iPad mini 6, or the third-generation 11-inch iPad Pro.

That’s essentially a generational leap in mobile hardware requirements. Desktop players, however, won’t see any changes, i7 processor paired with 16 GB RAM and GTX 1060 graphics card remains the standard.

V4 introduces something new: a formal “supported configuration” tier that sits below the recommended specs. Category defines what will technically run Honkai: Star Rail 4.0, even if performance might not be optimal. Android devices with Snapdragon 835, Dimensity 720, or Kirin 810 processors can still access the game, provided they have at least 4 GB of RAM.

Interestingly, specifications now explicitly address GPU compatibility. Documentation states that PowerVR-based graphics processors aren’t supported, except for Imagination’s D-Series. Exception appears calculated to maintain compatibility with devices like Google’s Pixel 10 series, which uses the DXT-48-1536 GPU.

Why the Performance Increase? Real question centers on what’s coming in Honkai: Star Rail 4.0 that necessitates this hardware upgrade. Is HoYoverse preparing to implement higher-resolution textures, more detailed character models, or larger playable environments? Or perhaps the update will introduce advanced rendering techniques that simply can’t run efficiently on older mobile chipsets?

Without official clarification from the developer, players are left wondering whether their current devices will handle the update gracefully or struggle under increased system demands. Timing of this announcement gives players at least some runway to consider potential hardware upgrades before launch.

For now, those still gaming on older hardware might want to star-t evaluating their options, because Honkai: Star Rail 4.0 is clearly raising the performance bar.
