Insider NWeedle has done it again! This time, he claims that a game studio in Spain has received the development kit for the next-generation Switch console. Although NWeedle cannot reveal any more details due to a confidentiality agreement, his track record for accurate leaks suggests that this claim could be true.
NWeedle previously leaked the title of Metroid Dread in May 2020, and his tweet on January 21 hinted that MercurySteam would release a 2D Metroid game in 2025. This has led many to speculate that MercurySteam may be the lucky studio that received the highly coveted development kit.
According to NWeedle, the performance of the new console will not be stronger than Sony’s PS4, which is consistent with the information revealed by Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick. Nintendo, however, has not revealed any specific information about the next-generation Switch.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has hinted at the existence of the new machine, saying that the company hopes to “smoothly transition customers” from the Nintendo Switch to the next game console as much as possible. They plan to use the Nintendo Account system to achieve this goal.
Earlier this year, rumors circulated that Nintendo Switch games would decrease after the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 to prepare for the release of the Switch successor next year. While Nintendo has not confirmed this, they have stated that they are still exploring ways to break through unknown areas with their new hardware style, which is still under discussion.
Nintendo has also emphasized that they will continue to focus on game development and meet market demand for the resale of new generation game consoles in the future. Although they cannot guarantee that the new console will be able to play Switch games, they remain committed to developing a console that combines software and hardware.
