Drone leader DJI has officially announced an October 25th product launch event where the company is expected to unveil the Osmo Pocket 3, the latest iteration of DJI’s acclaimed handheld gimbal camera line. Leaked promotional materials have already revealed several upgrades coming to the compact vlogging camera.
Most notably, the Osmo Pocket 3 will feature a larger 1-inch CMOS sensor capable of recording crisp 4K video at up to 120fps. This is a first for the Osmo series and should provide significantly improved image quality, especially in lower light.
The built-in 3-axis gimbal delivers mechanically stabilized video for smooth footage on the move. DJI’s subject tracking technology has also been updated to the latest ActiveTrack 6.0 version for more precise autofocus and tracking of subjects.
On the video side, the Osmo Pocket 3 includes a 10-bit D-LogM color profile that allows advanced color grading flexibility in post-production. Vloggers will appreciate the expanded creative options during editing.
From a design standpoint, the front-facing touchscreen has grown to 2 inches while still rotating to accommodate both landscape and portrait shooting modes. The compact form factor remains similar to past Osmo Pocket cameras.
One leaked accessory is a “Do-It-All” handle that provides an extended battery, tripod mount, and USB-C port. However, these functions are already integrated into the Osmo Pocket 3 body itself, reducing the need for the accessory.
With its larger sensor, upgraded gimbal, improved subject tracking, customizable color profiles, and rotating selfie screen, the Osmo Pocket 3 pushes compact stabilized cameras to a new level. For travel and vlogging, it packs impressive video chops into a pocketable package.
DJI has dominated the handheld gimbal camera market since introducing the Osmo series over seven years ago. The Osmo Pocket 3 looks ready to raise the bar once again for creative storytellers and videographers on the go.
We’ll know complete specs and pricing very soon when DJI takes the wraps off the Osmo Pocket 3 at their unveiling event on October 25th. But leaked details suggest this will be a significant update that cements DJI’s leadership in gimbal camera technology.
