Fresh deets on Sony’s next PlayStation 5 iteration from our leakster friends. Per insider whispers, the upcoming CFI-1300 PS5 model is ditching liquid metal cooling.
Seems the electronics giant is confident its shiny new 5nm AMD processor can chill without the high-tech heatsink.
This ain’t the first PlayStation 5 refresh either. Remember last year’s 6nm CFI-1202? Well, consider the CFI-1300 the next evolutionary step. Smaller chips equal better efficiency equals cost savings.
Sony’s first model of the PlayStation 5 console (CFI-1200) used a 7-nanometer process, while the 2022 CFI-1202 model used a 6-nanometer process. According to experts, 5-nanometers will be the endpoint of Sony’s PlayStation 5 console process, and the new CFI-1300 model with this APU will be released at the end of this year.
Of course, a 5nm APU won’t push PS5 performance into overdrive just yet. The leaksters say this ain’t no PS5 rivaling powerhouse upgrade. More a juicy engineering tweak to cut costs while boosting efficiency.
And if the gossip right, this cleverly refreshed PlayStation 5 could drop in time for holiday 2023. Talk about perfect timing! Rumor suggests Sony might even knock a few bucks off the price tag to get gamers jazzed.
But will it be enough to hold off the salivating masses waiting for the mythical PS5 Pro? Maybe not. But for now, an incremental upgrade is still a welcome upgrade in my book.
