Lenovo Legion Go: The Next Contender in the PC Gaming Handheld Arena?

The handheld PC gaming device market is heating up, and Lenovo apparently wants in on the action. According to a new rumor, Lenovo is developing a Windows handheld dubbed the “Legion Go” with a bigger screen than rivals like the Valve Steam Deck.

Windows Central reports that the Legion Go will run Windows 11 and feature an AMD Ryzen 7040 series processor – a chip AMD designed specifically for thin, light devices like this. The star of the show seems to be the 8-inch display, making it the largest of the current crop of handheld PCs.

Both the Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally opt for 7-inch screens. And while the Steam Deck’s 800p resolution aims to keep pixels nice and tight, an 8-inch 1080p panel could make UI elements easier to see in games originally built for the living room experience. No more squinting at barely legible text!

Of course, this is still just a rumor. Lenovo hasn’t confirmed the Legion Go is in the works. But last year we saw leaks about an Android-based Legion Play handheld that never materialized, so Lenovo has likely been experimenting in this space.

Will the Legion Go’s larger screen give gamers an edge in the handheld gaming experience? For now, Steam Deck reigns supreme as the most versatile handheld thanks to Valve’s Proton tech enabling Windows game compatibility. But if Lenovo can deliver on the bigger screen and Windows 11 gaming performance, the Legion Go could become a compelling alternative when and if it sees the light of day.
