Sony Launches Xperia 5 V Flagship with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 + Exmor T CMOS Sensor

Sony has officially announced its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia 5 V. Staying true to the Xperia family’s signature slender design, the Xperia 5 V measures 154 x 68 x 8.6mm and weighs just 182 grams. It comes in three understated color options – black, blue, and silver.

At the core of the Xperia 5 V is the newest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, promising speedy performance. The display is a 6.1-inch 21:9 OLED with FHD+ 2520 x 1080 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and support for real-time HDR rendering. Sony notes the display reproduces 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut for vivid imagery.

The Xperia 5 V features dual rear cameras consisting of a 12MP 16mm ultra-wide lens and a 52 MP Exmor T 1/1.35″ main camera. Sony says its new new sensor comes with a 2-Layer Transistor Pixel, which combines a Transistor Light layer with a Transistor Pixel layer, resulting in superior image quality. Sony’s Exmor T CMOS Sensor Work in Xperia 1 V, A game-changer for mobile photography.

For the front-facing camera, Sony has gone with a 12MP Exmor RS sensor. Other photographic capabilities include 2x zoom up to 48mm, multi-frame noise reduction, and improved autofocus.

Additional highlights of the Xperia 5 V include a 3.5mm headphone jack, NFC for contactless payments, Bluetooth LE Audio support, IP65/68 water resistance, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The smartphone will also feature Sony’s proprietary audio technologies like 360 Reality Audio and Full-stage Stereo speakers.

Xperia 5 V looks to appeal to users who want a compact Android flagship phone without compromising on processing power or photographic abilities.

Pricing for the Sony Xperia 5 V is set at €999, with availability expected in late September. Given the brand’s niche appeal in the smartphone market, the Xperia 5 V will aim to stand out through its focus on display, camera and audio quality in a stylish form factor.
