Leaked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy Benchmarks Massive 49% GPU Performance Gains

Although Qualcomm hasn’t officially unveiled its next flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip yet, leaked benchmarks suggest it could bring substantial graphics performance improvements.

According to recent leaks, an engineering sample of the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy scored 7400 in the Geekbench ML test. That’s a massive 49% higher than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy based S23 lineup, which hit 4975 in the same benchmark.

While early engineering sample scores often prove optimistic, a performance gain of this magnitude would be incredibly impressive. It indicates major architectural refinements focused on the GPU in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 compared to its predecessor.

Previous Geekbench listings of alleged Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips showed a unique 1+3+2+2 core configuration. The latest leak does not seem to match those prior scores.

Officially, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 utilizes Arm’s latest Cortex core designs with 1X4 prime core, 5X720 performance cores, and 2X520 efficiency cores.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Combined with an upgraded Adreno 740 GPU, Qualcomm seems poised to reclaim the mobile graphics performance crown with its next-gen flagship platform.

Of course, real-world performance depends on thermal constraints and software optimization too. But if Qualcomm’s engineering samples are already scoring 50% higher than last year’s model, the outlook seems very promising.

We’ll have to wait for Qualcomm’s official unveiling to know precisely what enhancements the company implemented to extract such GPU gains. But based on early leaks, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 appears ready to power a new generation of mobile gaming powerhouses.
