Apple May be Planning a Apple Mac Launch Event Later this October

Apple may be planning a Mac launch event later this October based on tightening inventory and rumors of new models on the horizon.

According to Mark Gurman, supplies of the iMac, MacBook Pro 13-inch, and high-end MacBook Pros are severely constrained both online and in Apple retail stores. Shipping estimates for multiple configurations now slip to mid-November – typically a sign of an imminent product refresh.

Originally, Apple intended to follow up the 24-inch M1 iMac with a higher-end M2 iMac Pro. But with those plans reportedly shelved due to cost concerns, Apple has had to reassess its desktop Mac roadmap.

The Mac Studio and Studio Display released this year filled part of that gap. However, for pro users invested in the iMac form factor, an all-in-one studio desktop isn’t a true substitute.

With iMac inventory vanishing, Apple may be preparing larger redesigns around next-gen Apple silicon. An October launch event would provide the perfect stage for new iMacs and MacBook Pro models.

Reports indicate while the M3 MacBook Air has slipped to 2024, Apple has made progress on 14-inch and 16-inch versions equipped with M2 Pro/Max chips. Back-to-back MacBook Pro updates in the same year would be highly unusual though.

Between dwindling inventory across multiple Mac lines and rumors of new models in testing, evidence points to an Apple Mac launch event within weeks.

With the crucial holiday shopping stretch ahead, Apple would be wise to announce any major Mac updates by the end of October. For Mac fans waiting patiently, the next gen of Apple Macs may finally be on the way very soon.
