Xiaomi 14 Pro vs 13 Pro Cameras: Sensor and Aperture Upgrades Over Xiaomi 13 Pro / 13 Ultra

With the launch of the Xiaomi 14 Pro, Xiaomi has included camera hardware improvements while retaining the same high-end image sensors found in last year’s Xiaomi 13 Pro and 13 Ultra models. Key upgrades come down to larger apertures and enhanced aperture control.

EDITOR PICKED: Key Differences Between the Xiaomi 14 Pro and Xiaomi 14 Models

The 50MP main 1-inch sensor on the Xiaomi 14 Pro has a slightly smaller size versus the Xiaomi 13 Pro and 13 Ultra. However, the maximum aperture has been widened to a bright f/1.42, versus f/1.61 on prior models.

This allows over 25% more light capture for superior low light shots and pleasing background blur. The equivalent aperture accounting for crop factors remains similar at around f/2.0.

Xiaomi has also introduced a 6-blade adjustable aperture on the 14 Pro spanning f/1.42 to f/4.0. Users can manually select from 10 aperture presets separated by 1/3 EV steps.

More impressively, there are a total of 1024 automatic aperture adjustments available in Movie and Pro camera modes as lighting conditions change, brings unprecedented versatility.

The 14 Pro’s faster f/1.42 maximum aperture produces 12-point sunstars at apertures up to f/2.8. From f/3.2 to f/4.0, 6-point sunstars are generated for added flare.

The 3.2x telephoto camera offers 75mm equivalent focal length, a 10cm minimum focusing distance, and 0.8x magnification power, lens replicates the dreamy bokeh effect of a Leica Noctilux 75/1.25 lens.

Even the ultrawide camera gains autofocus support for macro shots as close as 3cm. All sensors now output 14-bit RAW DNG files for richer tonality and shadow details.

Video recording is boosted up to 8K 30fps resolution on the main camera and 4K 60fps across all four shooters, including the 32MP front selfie camera. HDR video up to 4K 30fps is also now offered.

By fine-tuning the aperture, sensor size, resolution and video capabilities, Xiaomi has enhanced every aspect of the already excellent camera system in the Xiaomi 13 Pro and 13 Ultra. The Xiaomi 14 Pro looks set to continue Xiaomi’s reputation for delivering superlative mobile photography experiences.
