Qualcomm Launches Next-Gen Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Platform with CPU, GPU, AI Improvements

Qualcomm has announced its latest Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 mobile platform, bringing significant upgrades in CPU and GPU performance, AI capabilities, imaging, and 5G connectivity.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 features an advanced CPU architecture with four high-performance cores clocked up to 2.63GHz and four efficiency cores. Overall CPU performance sees a nearly 15% boost over prior generation Snapdragon 7 chips.

GPU gains are even more substantial, with the Adreno GPU delivering over 50% faster graphics rendering versus the original gen 2, enables smooth gaming at up to 80 FPS in benchmarks.

On the AI front, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 achieves up to 90% higher AI performance versus competing platforms. Dedicated AI acceleration also reduces power consumption by 60%.

For photography, the integrated Spectra triple ISP supports computational HDR capturing, noise reduction, and up to 200MP image sensors. It also enables 4K HDR video capture.

Gaming is upgraded with support for super resolution rendering and sustained performance at 120 FPS. Audio quality remains a focus with features like CD-lossless wireless audio, spatial audio, and crystal-clear voice chat.

Connectivity is powered by the integrated Snapdragon X63 5G modem supporting both sub-6GHz and mmWave networks. Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and high-speed location positioning are also supported.

Overall, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 platform strikes an optimal balance of cutting-edge features, power efficiency, and mainstream accessibility. As Qualcomm high-tier Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips push the envelope, the Snapdragon 7 series brings key technologies to mid-range devices at scale.

The first smartphone confirmed to leverage the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is the upcoming Honor 100, set to launch in China on November 23rd. More devices utilizing the new platform are expected in 2023.
