Google Announces “Mint” Pixel 8 and Now Take Body Temperature Readings

Google has unveiled a new “Mint” color option for the Pixel 8 series, available exclusively on the 128GB models sold directly through the Google Store. This minty fresh new color joins the typical Just Black and Snow White options.

In addition to the new colorway, Google has detailed a surprisingly robust Pixel Feature Drop. While most drops coincide with quarterly Pixel updates, this one brings some exciting new capabilities on its own.

Most notable is that the Pixel 8 Pro’s Thermometer app can now take body temperature readings, having received FDA clearance to operate as an authorized thermometer. Any temperature data recorded can be synced to your Fitbit profile as well.

Both the Pixel Watch and Pixel Buds Pro are also receiving updates to enable seamless audio switching between devices. For example, your Pixel Buds can now automatically switch from your Pixel Tablet to your Pixel phone when a call comes in, making for a smoother experience.

The Quick Share feature, a rebranded version of Nearby Share, is beginning its rollout too. This will allow quick wireless transfer of files and links between Android devices.

One particularly interesting update is Circle to Search, which lets you circle a subject in the viewfinder and then search for it. Announced at the Galaxy Unpacked event, Google says it will come to the Pixel 8 series on January 31. However, some Pixel users have already enabled it via root workarounds.

Finally, Photomoji and Magic Compose will see wider rollout. Photomoji converts photos into shareable stickers, while Magic Compose suggests rewrites of your messages in different styles using AI.

With new colors, exciting features, and more, the Pixel 8 series is shaping up to be an impressive release. Google continues leading the way with thoughtful software updates that enhance the Pixel experience.
