OnePlus and OPPO Return to Germany After Nokia Patent Deal

OnePlus and OPPO are making a comeback in Germany following a patent licensing agreement between OPPO and Nokia. In 2023, the two brands had to suspend sales in Germany and other European markets amid a dispute with Nokia over patents. But with the new global deal, OnePlus has officially relaunched in Germany once again.

OnePlus Germany’s website now shows product listings for the OnePlus Fold, OnePlus 12, and OnePlus 12R. Pre-orders are open, confirming OnePlus is back selling phones in the country. This comes after months of being unavailable due to the Nokia case.

However, OPPO’s German website still lacks any product listings. The site currently states OPPO devices cannot be purchased in Germany. But with the conflict resolved, OPPO is also expected to resume German sales soon.

The recent OPPO Find X7 Ultra launched only in China so far. There are no plans to introduce it in Europe yet due to the prior patent uncertainty. But future OPPO flagships will likely return to Germany given the new Nokia agreement.

In 2023, OnePlus, OPPO and other BBK Electronics brands were barred from selling phones in Germany after losing a patent lawsuit to Nokia. The disputed patents covered 4G and 5G technology used in smartphones.

Now that a licensing deal is in place, OnePlus has wasted no time restoring availability of its latest devices. OPPO may take a bit longer to work through the logistics. But the settlement with Nokia paves the way for its eventual German comeback as well.

For German customers, the return of these popular Chinese smartphone brands expands options in the market. With the patent roadblock removed, OnePlus and OPPO can resume competing for dominance in Europe.
