Forgot Your Vision Pro Passcode? Get Ready for a Headache

Apple’s Vision Pro headset boasts stunning 8K graphics and expansive virtual worlds, if you happen to forget your passcode, it could turn into an expensive paperweight.

Unlike iPhone and iPad, Vision Pro currently lacks any way to reset forgotten passcodes at home. Even with activation lock enabled, Apple’s “Find My” service does not work on the headset, Apple Unveils Optic ID Iris Authentication for Vision Pro Headset. So what are owners to do if they get locked out?

Unfortunately, the only recourse is taking the Vision Pro to an Apple store or mailing it to AppleCare. There, staff can erase your VisionOS and reset it to factory conditions, say goodbye to all your apps and data in the process.

This hassle contrasts sharply with Apple’s other products. On iPhone, users can connect to a computer to wipe their device, restoring factory settings without totally bricking the hardware, for Apple Watch, simply forcing a reboot resets passcodes easily.

So why is Vision Pro an exception? Likely because it lacks any data transfer port for connecting to a PC, USB-C adapter included is for developers only, with no “Find My” option, Apple currently has no way to wirelessly reset Vision Pro units remotely.

For a $3,000 piece of technology designed for portable use, that’s a major limitation. Users are understandably frustrated about having to hand deliver their device or package it up for mailing just to regain basic functionality after forgetting a password.

Hopefully Apple addresses this headache down the road. Adding a reset option or “Find My” support would prevent many unnecessary trips to the Genius Bar. For now, Vision Pro owners will need to be extra careful about not losing their passcodes. Otherwise, they may be stuck enjoying virtual worlds rather than real ones.
