Last Call for Repairs: Nintendo Sunsets Support for Beloved 2DS/3DS Handhelds

Pour one out, portable gamers – Nintendo has just declared last call for repairs on its cherished 3DS series of handhelds. Earlier today, the gaming giant announced it will soon terminate repair services for the iconic 2DS, New 3DS, and New 3DS LL once replacement parts finally run dry.

This sunset spells the end of an era for the dual-screened handhelds that dazzled fans with glasses-free 3D while taking Nintendo multiplayer to new heights. Originally launched in 2013, the budget-friendly 2DS brought Nintendo’s portable fun to the masses by nixing the folding design and 3D screen. Meanwhile, 2014’s New 3DS line doubled down on immersion with upgraded displays and processing power befitting franchises like Super Smash Bros. and Animal Crossing.

Alas, with replacement components now scarce nearly a decade later, Nintendo is pulling the plug on repairs for these aging systems. The company warns they cannot provide an exact end-of-life date, as dwindling parts will determine how long fixes can still be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

While disappointing, the news doesn’t spell doom quite yet for existing 2DS and New 3DS owners. Luckily, as long as your device still turns on, this sunset shouldn’t stop you from enjoying your old games and online battles. Just don’t expect any miracles if your screen cracks or your Circle Pad snaps off down the road.

So for stalwart fans still clutching these portables, take care – with repairs disappearing into the sunset, now is the time to handle your hardware with extra love. One tumble could mean game over for good. Here’s hoping Nintendo keeps supply lines open as long as possible…but the hourglass is draining fast for these legendary handhelds. Got 3DS woes or repair plans? Best make your move quickly!
