DJI Osmo Action 4 Camera Gets a Major Imaging Upgrade: Boosts the Image Quality Shooting 30fps

Drone maker DJI is giving its rugged, go-anywhere Osmo Action 4 camera a nice little glow-up. The company announced a firmware update today that optimizes the image algorithms, resulting in noticeably better image quality when recording videos at 30 frames per second or lower frame rates.

“Bumping up the imaging performance on the Osmo Action 4 at more cinematic frame rates was a top request from our customers,” said DJI “This update delivers big time, with increased dynamic range and way better highlight handling.”

In addition to the juicier image quality for slo-mo capture, the update brings a couple of other welcome tweaks. There’s now an auto-shutdown setting for DJI’s wireless Mic 2 transmitter, powering it down after 15 minutes if it’s not connected to conserve battery life. Speaking of audio, DJI increased the default gain on the Mic 2 transmitter to boost volume out of the box.

DJI OSMO Action 4 arrived last August packing an impressive imaging punch into its compact, modular body. Highlights include a large 1/3-inch sensor, 10-bit D-Logcolor, 4K/120fps video, a ultra-wide 155-degree field of view, and 360-degree HorizonSteady horizon leveling. It’s waterproof down to 18 meters without a housing and can shoot vertically thanks to its magnetic lens rotation.

With today’s update improving the slo-mo goods, the $349 Osmo Action 4 is an even more formidable rival to GoPro’s flagship action cams. DJI says the update is rolling out now, so keep an eye out for a notification on your Osmo Action 4 to grab the download.
