Apple Teases May 7th Event, Setting Stage for iPad Air/iPad Pro Refresh Bonanza

You know it’s spring when those colorful Apple event logos start blooming in your inbox. This time around, it’s a livestream scheduled for May 7th at 7AM PT, and all signs are pointing to some pretty big iPad news.

Mark Gurman, both the iPad Pro and the iPad Air lineups are currently “constrained” at retail channels, replacements are imminent as Apple clears the decks for some fresh tablet slabs.

So what can we expect from these potential new iPads? Well, when it comes to the iPad Pro, it’s been nearly three years since the last major revamp that brought the powerful M1 chip and that drool-worthy MiniLED display to the 12.9-inch model. Three years is an eternity in the mobile world, so you’d better believe Apple’s top tablet is due for some serious firepower.

The current whispers suggest an M2 chip could be in the cards, potentially allowing the iPad Pro to keep pace with the latest Macs. There are even some wild rumors about the possibility of iPhone-esque multiple camera arrays making their way to the back of the high-end iPad – because why not turn your tablet into a ridiculously oversized camera while you’re at it?

As for the iPad Air, we’ve heard it could be getting a size increase to bridge that gap between the entry-level and Pro models. A larger 10.9-inch display has been tossed around, so perhaps the Air will finally ditch those chunky bezels while leveling up its performance.

Of course, this is all just speculation until Tim Cook takes the virtual stage on May 7th. But hey, a new iPad launch sure would make for a lovely Mother’s Day gift idea, eh? Let’s see if Apple delivers next month.
