OnePlus 16 Review: The Battery Beast That Also Happens to Be a Great Phone

OnePlus has never been shy about iterating fast, OnePlus 16 makes that philosophy crystal clear. At first glance, you’d be forgiven for thinking OnePlus simply reboxed last year’s model, design is nearly identical to OP 15. But spend a few days with it, and you’ll realize this isn’t a lazy refresh. It’s a focused, deliberate upgrade that targets exactly the areas users complained about: battery life, camera performance, and raw processing power.

Question isn’t whether the OnePlus 16 improves on its predecessor. It does, noticeably. Real question is whether those improvements are substantial enough to justify an upgrade, or a first-time purchase in an increasingly crowded flagship market.

OnePlus kept the same design language that made OP 15 one of the sharper-looking flagships of its generation. Integrated camera island, flat aluminum sides, and ultra-thin bezels are all present and accounted for. It’s a mature, confident design that doesn’t need to shout.

That said, 16 does introduce something genuinely new: a special silver edition with Interstellar ambient lighting. Patterns and number “16” appear on the rear panel when the lighting activates, and users can select from always-on, breathing, flashing, or flowing modes. Effect triggers automatically during incoming calls and gaming sessions, giving the phone a distinctly futuristic aesthetic that sets it apart from virtually every other flagship on the market right now.

There is a trade-off, though. OP 16 is approximately 1mm thicker than its predecessor, a marginal difference in isolation, but one that comes with a meaningful reason behind it.

Here’s where OP 16 makes its most compelling argument. Fitting a 9,000mAh battery into a flagship-class chassis is a genuinely remarkable engineering decision, and it shows in real-world usage. This isn’t a battery designed to barely clear a full day; it’s built for users who push their devices hard and resent hunting for a charger by mid-afternoon.

For gamers, road warriors, or anyone who’s grown frustrated with how quickly modern flagship phones drain under sustained workloads, OnePlus 16’s battery capacity is a substantial differentiator. No comparable flagship at this price tier comes close to matching it.

Added weight is the inevitable consequence. 16 is heavier than 15, and that extra mass is perceptible during extended one-handed use. It’s not uncomfortable, but users who prized the lighter feel of the previous generation will notice the difference.

Paired with the 9,000mAh battery, gaming sessions that would drain competing flagships become significantly more manageable. If mobile gaming factors into your purchasing decision, combination of cutting-edge processing power and massive battery capacity makes OP 16 a uniquely strong option.

Camera upgrade on OP 16 is more than a spec-sheet story. New triple-camera configuration consists of a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a 50MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom. Those are strong numbers, but what matters more is that real-world performance backs them up.

Colors are richer, dynamic range is improved, and telephoto output is sharper than what OP 15 delivered. For a brand that’s historically been competitive but not dominant in mobile photography, this represents a genuine step forward.

Ultra-wide and telephoto sensors both land at 50MP, which gives the entire camera system a consistency that’s often missing on competing devices where secondary cameras are clearly deprioritized. Whether you’re shooting architecture, portraits, or action, OnePlus 16 handles each scenario with noticeably more confidence than its predecessor.

6.78-inch 1.5K BOE display carries over from OP 15, with colors appearing marginally richer on the new model. Among Chinese flagship manufacturers, OnePlus has consistently delivered display quality that competes with the best in the industry, 16 continues that trend.

One minor criticism worth noting: the corner bezels appear slightly wider than the bezels along the straight edges. It’s a subtle inconsistency, and examining OnePlus 15 reveals the same issue, it’s just more noticeable on the newer model. It doesn’t affect usability, but for a device at flagship pricing, corner finishing at this level is worth flagging.

OP 16 makes the most sense for three types of buyers: mobile gamers who want sustained performance without constant charging, users who’ve prioritized battery endurance above all else, and photography enthusiasts who want a versatile multi-lens system without moving to Samsung or Apple territory on price.

It’s not a perfect device. Added weight is real, and the corner bezel issue is a small but genuine fit-and-finish shortcoming. But the areas where it improves, battery life, cameras, and processing power, are exactly the areas that matter most to its target audience.

OnePlus 16 doesn’t just upgrade the formula; it redefines the ceiling for what this brand can deliver. If you’re ready to level up, this phone has got your number — all OP 16 of them. OnePlus 16 series available now at NextBuying.
