Samsung has unveiled the ISOCELL HPC, a new mobile image sensor built for phones that need to do more with less hardware. ISOCELL HPC arrives with a resolution that puts it firmly in flagship territory. Sensor brings the company’s new DeepPix pixel technology, single-frame 16-bit HDR, multiple in-sensor zoom levels, and support for recording 4K videos at up to 180fps. That’s a notable jump from what most current sensors offer, and it positions the ISOCELL HPC as a serious contender for next-generation devices.
DeepPix isn’t just a marketing label; it represents a structural change to how the sensor captures light. One of its key additions is the new DeepPix pixel technology, which uses a Front Deep Trench Isolation structure. This design choice directly affects image quality in ways that matter to photographers.
According to Samsung, FDTI expands the photodiode capacity and shared floating diffusion, increasing the single-pixel Full Well Capacity by up to 60 percent compared with the previous generation. In practical terms, that means brighter highlights and richer shadow detail without the sensor blowing out in tricky lighting.
Most sensors force a tradeoff between zoom and image quality. ISOCELL HPC tries to avoid that entirely. Unlike many existing smartphone sensors that limit HDR to specific zoom ratios, the ISOCELL HPC extends single-frame HDR to 1x, 1.5x, 2x, 3x, and 4x zoom.
That consistency isn’t accidental. Intelligent in-sensor downscaling helps maintain image quality and dynamic range throughout the zoom range, making images more consistent regardless of the focal length. Numbers alone don’t tell the full story, but they help frame what ISOCELL HPC brings to the table. Samsung ISOCELL HPC is a 1/1.3-inch image sensor featuring a resolution of 16,384 × 12,288 pixels and an individual pixel size of 0.6μm.
Frame rate flexibility rounds out the package. At its complete 200MP resolution, ISOCELL HPC can capture images at up to 7.5fps and supports up to 30fps at 50MP and up to 180fps at 12.5MP. Video shooters aren’t left out either, since the sensor supports 8K videos at 30fps and 4K videos at up to 180fps.
Independent verification hasn’t caught up to the marketing yet, though. Those numbers all come from Samsung, and nothing in the coverage reviewed here includes independent image testing of the HPC, so treat the figures as a manufacturer’s claim rather than a verified result. Competitive pressure is real too, as a comparison of flagship 200MP sensors found that Sony’s LYT-901 already uses its own advanced HDR pixel techniques, called Dual Conversion Gain-HDR and Hybrid Frame-HDR.
