Xiaomi 17 Pro Getting 4K 60fps LOFIC HDR Update Coming Soon

Xiaomi’s moving fast on its camera roadmap. The company’s prepping a software update that’ll bring advanced HDR video recording to its Xiaomi 17 Pro lineup, it’s targeting early February for rollout.

According to a product manager from Xiaomi’s camera division, Xiaomi 17 Ultra will ship with Dolby Vision recording enabled by default. But here’s the kicker: both the Ultra and Pro models pack identical LOFIC hardware, meaning the Pro series can handle the same 4K 60fps HDR workload. Xiaomi’s just waiting to flip the switch via OTA.

Technology behind this isn’t some marketing gimmick. LOFIC—lateral overflow integration capacitors, represents a fundamental shift in how smartphone sensors capture light. Instead of choosing between linear or logarithmic charge storage, LOFIC combines both approaches within individual pixels. The result? Massively expanded dynamic range that preserves highlight and shadow information simultaneously.

What does this actually mean for users? Think backlit portraits where faces don’t turn into silhouettes. Or nighttime city shots where neon signs stay readable while dark buildings retain texture. Sensor-level integration means there’s no computational trickery involved, LOFIC hardware physically captures more light data before processing begins.

Xiaomi’s been clear about compatibility. Xiaomi 17 Pro update won’t extend backward to older devices. 14 and 15 series lack LOFIC-equipped sensors entirely, making software-based emulation impossible. Isn’t about artificial segmentation, physics simply aren’t there on previous generations.

For Xiaomi 17 Pro owners, February can’t arrive soon enough. Sitting dormant since launch, and unlocking 4K 60fps HDR recording positions these devices closer to their Ultra sibling. Sometimes you just need the right update to let your camera properly shine.
