The company is expected to introduce the Xiaomi 18 Fold early in September with its in-house Xring O3 processor and next-generation LPDDR6 memory. Positioned as what Xiaomi calls a “mid-foldable” flagship, this isn’t just another device in a growing product category. With pricing expected to exceed $1500, Xiaomi is making a direct play for the premium foldable tier, territory currently dominated by Huawei and, soon, Apple.
What’s particularly notable here is the degree to which Xiaomi has integrated its own technology stack. From the silicon to the camera partnership to the battery chemistry, this is the most vertically integrated smartphone the company has ever produced.
Xiaomi 18 Fold introduces a design philosophy that sits between compact flip-style foldables and the larger book-format devices that have defined the category. When folded, the device is roughly passport-sized, usable with one hand. Unfolded, users get a 7.58-inch display with room to work. 5.38-inch cover display adopts an approximately √2:1 aspect ratio, a proportion familiar to anyone who’s worked with standard document formats. Ratio isn’t accidental; it’s engineered for reading, video playback, and document workflows.
Xiaomi is also positioning the Xiaomi 18 Fold as its lightest large-format foldable to date, a meaningful claim given that weight has historically been a liability in this device class.
Headline specification is the Xiaomi Xuanjie O3 AI flagship SoC, which makes its global debut inside the Xiaomi 18 Fold. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun and Chinese memory manufacturer CXMT have officially confirmed that the new foldable will feature not only the Xring O3 but also locally sourced DRAM, specifically LPDDR6 memory, reportedly in a variant running at 10,667 MT/s with a maximum of 12,800 MT/s.
Performance ambitions don’t stop there. Phone is reportedly on track to become the first smartphone to break the five-million mark on AnTuTu, a figure that, if accurate, represents a substantial leap over current flagships.
Rear camera array on the Xiaomi 18 Fold carries Leica branding across three sensors: a 200MP main camera, a 50MP periscope telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultra-wide. Together, they cover a 17–80mm focal-length range, a versatile spread that handles everything from architectural wide shots to long-range detail work. It’s an unusually capable system for a foldable, where camera hardware is often the first thing that gets compromised.
Foldable is tipped to feature a 6,000mAh battery, 67W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging. Xiaomi is positioning this as the largest battery capacity among comparable foldable smartphones — a pointed response to one of the most persistent criticisms of the thin-and-light foldable design approach.
Xiaomi Jinshajiang battery cell used here is the company’s own development, keeping the internal component sourcing consistent with the broader strategy evident across this device.
September 7 isn’t a smartphone-only event for Xiaomi. Same day will see the launch of Xiaomi Pengcheng Auto and the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max, signaling that the company views this as a broader ecosystem moment, not just a device release.
