Three Months With Apple HomePod 2: A Comprehensive Review

There’s the ins and outs of Apple’s 2nd generation HomePod and find out whether it lives up to the hype. Does it hit the sweet spot between price, sound quality, and smart home integration?

Are you a fan of the first-generation Apple HomePod? many users are eager to know whether it lives up to expectations. As a longtime user of the 1nd-generation product, I was excited to use into what Apple has brought to the table with their latest offering in the smart speaker department. There’s review, talking homepod 2 design, sound quality, smart home capabilities, and overall value of the HomePod 2, So, does it hit the mark? Let’s find out.

Design: Familiar, Yet Refreshed

At first glance, while the new HomePod maintains the same design, size, and similar color options as its predecessor, there are some subtle differences in appearance. The most striking change is the Siri display: instead of a colored Siri symbol in the middle area of the panel, the new HomePod displays Siri’s standby status on the entire panel. This update gives the device a sleek and modern look, aligning it with the design of the HomePod mini.

The display panel resembles that of the mini, embedded in the mesh body. The seamless acoustic mesh technology used in both generations of HomePod is visually appealing, but it may be prone to dust accumulation. The 2nd-generation HomePod also features a split-type power design power cord comes with a 2-prong with a detachable power cable.

Sound Quality: Still Music to Our Ears

When it comes to sound quality, the HomePod 2 has seen some hardware downgrades, such as a decrease in the number of high-frequency units and microphone arrays. However, these changes don’t seem to impact the overall sound quality. The new HomePod still delivers clear and crisp high tones, along with full and rich bass. If you loved the sound of the first-generation HomePod, the 2nd-gen product won’t disappoint.

The HomePod’s microphone array serves two main purposes: recognizing Siri voice commands and working with audio processing technology for real-time tuning. Despite having fewer microphones than its predecessor, the HomePod 2.0 still boasts stable Siri voice recognition capabilities. From my experience, it quickly and reliably responds to commands, even during music playback.

A Hub for the Future

One of the key selling points of the HomePod is its ability to function as a smart home hub. With support for the Matter protocol for smart homes, the HomePod 2 can integrate seamlessly with HomeKit and other compatible devices. This means you can create automations and even unlock doors using voice commands.

Priced

The second-generation HomePod is priced at $299, making it more affordable than its predecessor. This lower price point seems to be a response to the market’s reception of the first-gen HomePod and the introduction of the cheaper HomePod mini. For users who primarily use their smart speaker for listening to music, the HomePod mini may be the more cost-effective choice.

After the release of the new HomePod, some users noticed that the new model has several hardware downgrades compared to the first generation, such as a decrease in the number of high-frequency units from 7 to 5, 6-microphone arrays adjusted to 4, and a change in wireless network standards from 802.11ac to 802.11n. These changes in configuration led to a lower official price of $299 for the HomePod 2.

HomePod 2 still has clear and crisp high tones and full and rich bass, can detect sound reflections through its microphone and adjust the sound accordingly. This means that no matter where you place the HomePod, you will feel as if you are in the best listening position.

New HomePod support for spatial audio makes it an excellent addition to your home entertainment setup, particularly if you subscribe to Apple Music or watch Apple TV+ and Netflix content. The combination of good sound quality, smart home integration, and a reasonable price tag makes the HomePod 2.0 an attractive option for Apple enthusiasts.

HomeKit supported Matter protocol for smart homes, new and old products like HomePod mini and Apple TV will support it. The new HomePod can also be a hub for your smart home, allowing you to create automations and unlock doors using voice commands.
